In Memories of Severus Snape

This picture definitely caught my attention for some reason---perhaps because it is not only very well-done, but perhaps also because it's somehow different than a lot of what I find in my Inbox. I had just been wondering how it was that he had so many fangirls, inundating me with art one really had to be a fangirl to appreciate (no offense to anyone---it's just the sheer volume!). I'm not quite sure what makes me react to this one differently---perhaps just it's simplicity, being a scene from the books devoid of one's fanon perspective. But it's also, of course, a very powerful image, given all the events that surround this one scene; it's clearly pro-Snape, but unlike a lot of piece it's both dark and tragic, which, of course, fits Snape's own personality perfectly.

I only have a few little points about the art itself---the area around his hand looks a bit odd somehow; the way the light on the floorboards looks gives an odd impression like he's dipping his fingers in water or something. I also can't help but wonder about his exact position---shouldn't he be on his back or something? (I admit I don't have the books with me to check, if you were even going for a perfect transition. I just nitpick. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/x/x…" width="15" height="15" alt="" title="XD" />) I'm inclined to say that the specific viewpoint forces him into the periphery, but somehow it works---his cloak seems dark enough against the background that my eyes at least do go to him fairly quickly, even if one's first instinct is to examine the scenery in the center.
